At Christmas we found that our daughter was expecting.

(2005)

Tuesday, March 22 - She sees the doctor who'll deliver the baby. They do an ultrasound and also a triple-screen blood test.

Sunday, March 27 - Easter Sunday. The US tech had said she 'thought' she could guess the sex of the baby, and gave her a sealed envelope. Today she and her husband open it together. She'd written down 'boy'.

Monday, March 28 - She is now 18 weeks pregnant. Doctor calls and tells her the blood test showed a marker for Spina Bifida, and she needs to get an amniocentesis done.

Monday, April 11 - Goes to doctor and he makes the diagnosis of PUV (Posterior Urethral Valves). He also confirms it is a boy, so his name will be Vaughn Mack.

Friday, April 22 - They go for a full day of testing at a hospital that is equipped with more diagnostic capabilities and talk with the specialists there. Diagnosis is confirmed, and they see no reason to intervene, since his kidneys are already so severely damaged. It has now become a 'fatal' diagnosis. He has no chance of survival. He is also in Frank Breech, and they think she has Placenta Previa. They estimate that she will go into labor between the 28th and 35th week, with the 31st and 32nd being the most likely. His due date is August 27.

Saturday, August 6 - Vaughn is born at 11:03 pm (at 37 weeks) and passes at 11:55 pm. He weighed 5 lbs., 12 ounces, and was 18 inches long.

He is forever loved and forever missed. One day our hope will be fulfilled when we are reunited with him in Heaven. Until then, our hearts are filled with the precious memories of his short life on earth and the peace that comes knowing he is safe in the arms of God and our Saviour, Jesus--The Christ.

Vaughn's brother Finnian Joseph, our little Rainbow,  arrives safely.  He fills our hearts with joy, but I wish so much he could have his big brother here with him.
